Uses
Used to treat nerve pain, as an anticonvulsant and for fibromyalgia Nerve pain (diabetic neuropathy), seizures and for fibromyalgia Elevates mood (anti-depressant) |
Dose
600mg 3 times per day for nerve pain but starting with 300mg per day Doses start at 50mg 3x/day and then can be increased to 100mg 3x/day. 40-150mg/day. |
Side effect
Dizziness, drowsiness, ataxia, fatigue, fluid retention, hostility, nausea and vomiting. Plus hypertension, anorexia, bruising, joint pain, motion sickness, and pneumonia. Has been associated with suicide and patients can experience withdrawal symptoms if rapidly withdrawn. Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, oedema, blurred vision, weight gain, and difficulty concentrating. Other side effects include reduced blood platelet counts, and increased blood creatinine kinase levels. Tachycardia, blurred vision, urinary retention, dry mouth, constipation, weight gain or loss, and low blood pressure on standing. Can increase the risk of seizure. |
