So, I finally got to treat a post-partum patient. It was much as I had been told! It turns out that women, in whichever stage of pregnancy, are just people after all!
Once I got over my initial excitement, she had what I diagnosed as a fairly straightforward musculoskeletal presentation, and I was able to give relevant advice too!
So, the obstetric course did achieve it's main aim of making more comfortable treating women around pregnancy time.
In the end, the much hyped SIJ thrust was less inspiring than I had hoped, but I am going to give it some practice.
Everything else was very interesting, but the one thing I mentioned to a pregnant massage client (not as osteopathy of course, but saying that this was a solution that I had been told on my ongoing course) was the idea about morning sickness being a pre-hypoglycaemic state. She was outraged at the suggestion that she could have tried (as she was just past morning sickness by that point) to have a sweet drink in the extremely early morning and then go back to sleep, as that would definitely not work for her!
But, overall again, excellent course, interesting and varied contact.
